Gonzalo Banda, 90, passed away on November 18, 2022, in Walla Walla at Providence St. Mary Medical Center.
Gonzalo was born and raised in Donna, TX, to Ernesto and Teresa Banda on January 10, 1932. He married Maria Martinez on November 13, 1954, in Raymondville, TX. They lived in Arizona for a short time and moved to Touchet in 1957. They then settled in Walla Walla. He worked for several farmers for 30 years. He then worked at the Family Medical Center for six years. Gonzalo enjoyed recording every special moment of his grandchildren. He loved gardening and watching his roses blossom every year. In his free time, he enjoyed playing the accordion. Gonzalo also had a grand collection when it came to bald eagles. He cared for his neighbors and friends dearly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernesto and Teresa Banda; his wife, Maria Banda; granddaughter, Selena Zamora; sisters, Rosa Munoz and Juanita Perez; brothers, Jose, Anacleto, Ilario, Miguel, Sturnino, and Lupe Banda.
He is survived by his two brothers, Miguel and Juan Banda; his children, Carmelita Guel, Felipe Banda, Margarita Banda, Teresa Zamora, Rachel Arevalo, Timoteo Banda, and Rebecca Banda; 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Memorial services and viewing will be held at the Chapel of the Herring Funeral Home, 315 W Alder St, Walla Walla. The viewing will be held on Monday, November 28, 2022, from 10 am to 7 pm. Friends are welcome to gather at 4 pm with the family. The funeral will be Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at 10 am, with Daniel Martinez officiating, followed by a burial at Mountain View Cemetery, 2120 S 2nd Ave, Walla Walla.
