Gloria Louise Rieger

Gloria Louise (Barainca) Rieger, passed away June 10, 2018 in her home in Walla Walla surrounded by her family.

Gloria was born in Elko, Nevada, May 2, 1930 to John Barainca and Pauline Giudici.  The eldest of three children, she had the advantage of growing up on a ranch and gained an early appreciation for nature and its beauties.  She graduated from Elko High School in 1948, excelling in her favored sport of tennis.

Through her marriages, she was blessed with five beautiful children that meant everything to her.  She continued to enjoy the outdoors and travel through the years, whether it was family camping trips, exploring the west coast or epic road journeys through Canada and she loved recalling the places she’d been able to experience.

She had a few positions over the years, but was happiest when being a homemaker, which is where she spent the majority of her time and efforts.  Gardening and music were great pursuits that offered much enjoyment to her in this world and she was steadfast in her church.  An accomplished cook, she was instructed in her early years by her beloved grandmother and took great pleasure in sharing her table with everyone over the years.

Her great faith was nearly as important to her as her family, who she doted upon.  She took a great deal of satisfaction in the accomplishments of each of her children and later grandchildren and served as family matriarch for many, many years, despite the distances that sometimes came between them.

Her legacy extends to a great-great grandchild.

She was predeceased by both her brother and sister and she helped to care for her mother prior to her passing in 2002.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 9:00AM at the Walla Walla Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery of Walla Walla.
