Glenn Ray Matlock, 67, of Walla Walla passed away
Nov. 15, 2014, at the Veterans Administration Medical
Center in Portland. A private graveside service
will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014,
at Mountain View Cemetery. Family and friends are
invited to the memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at First
Assembly of God, 1919 Fern Ave., Walla Walla.
Glenn was born to Hestle and Pauline Matlock in
Porterville, Calif. He graduated from Porterville
High School in 1965. He and his wife, Charlotte Ann
Kanady, were married on June 17, 1967. Shortly after,
he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving a year
in Vietnam as an armor recon specialist and company
orderly clerk. Within one year he was promoted to E-5
and was a Bronze Star Medal recipient.
Following his service, he moved to Ontario, Calif.,
and began a career in full-time ministry. He served as
a worship leader and choir director in Upland, Calif.,
Phoenix, and Fremont, Calif. He later started, owned,
and operated his own media and printing business in
Fremont. However, his true calling was in the service
of the church. He served in various pastoral roles
for over 23 years at Fremont First Assembly of God
Church before serving as the senior pastor of Faith
Chapel of Pleasanton, Calif., from 1997 to 2007.
Glenn was a gifted singer, minister and graphic media
designer. He loved music and he loved people, especially
his family. Glenn had an eternal optimism
and loved to laugh. He especially loved his Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ.
Glenn is preceded in death by his mother, Pauline.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; two sons, Glenn
Jr. and Darrell; father, Hestle; brother, Darrell; two
sisters, Eldonna Maness and Linda Wilson (twin);
grandchildren Victoria (Tori), Ashlyn, Luke, and
Naomi; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
