George entered into rest peacefully with his sister Esther by his side in Walla Walla, WA on March 20, 2018 due to Parkinson's disease. He joins in Heaven his beloved wife and sweetheart Nina, his son Dan, parents Gus and Eveline Anderson, and brothers Lewis and David. He is the father to Denise Heitman(her husband Jerry) of Diamond Springs, California and Doreen Gardner (her husband Dennis) of Boise, Idaho. He is a dear brother to Ruth, Paul, Esther and Mark. He is also survived by five cherished grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Before recently moving to Walla Walla, George lived in Boise. He began his life 87 years ago on March 16, 1931, in Oakland, CA.
George grew up in Washington State and graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1949 where he met his true love 'Pinky'. After she found him hiding in the trunk of her car one day after school, she realized he was serious! They were wed June 11th, 1951, at Pioneer Methodist Church in Walla Walla. At the time of Nina's death, the Andersons were about to celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary. With Nina by his side, George joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He served aboard the U.S.S. Esperance and after proudly attending three naval technical schools; he achieved the rank of Electrician's Mate 2nd Class Petty Officer. He was awarded six service ribbons: National Defense, United Nations, Korean Service, Navy Occupation, Good Conduct and China Service. Upon leaving the service in 1954 with his and Nina’s new baby boy Danny, he attended Oregon State University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and Production Technology. He graduated in June of 1959 with a new addition: his two-year-old daughter Denise (who also attended his graduation). He started his electronic engineering career at Tektronix in Beaverton, Oregon in product design and evaluation. Then, baby girl Doreen joined the family of four to complete the new family of five. George worked in etched circuit board design development and created an audio amplified product line with EH Research in Oakland, CA and ESS, Inc. Speaker Co. in Rancho Cordova, CA. He then started his own commercial sound system company with partner Robert Bird called AB Systems, AB International, in the Folsom/Roseville area of California from 1976 until he retired in 2000. George loved to volunteer and he was a loyal Lion. He delivered meals for Meals on Wheels twice a week for nine years in California and for ten years in Boise.
He was a Meadow Vista Lion for nine years in California and a Boise Capitol City Lion for ten years in Idaho. He held many officer positions and received the Lion of the Year achievement award. He loved collecting pop can pull tabs and delivering them to the local Ronald McDonald House.
A military honors service will be held at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 N. Horseshoe Bend Road, Boise, Idaho on Friday, April 20, 2018, line up at 12:30, service at 1:00. He would appreciate any donations be offered to your local Ronald McDonald House or Lions Club. A gathering to share pictures and stories about George will follow the service.
