Gary Earl Swopes

Gary Earl Swopes, 62, of Goldendale, Washington, passed away on December 20, 2022, at the Klickitat Valley Health hospital in Goldendale, Washington.

Gary was born on August 19, 1960, in Walla Walla. He grew up in Walla Walla with his parents and five siblings. His parents were Truitt and Cleo Swopes, originally from Milton-Freewater, and preceded him in death. He had one brother, Orin Swopes, who died before him. He is survived by his son, Austin Swopes (age 36) of Lewiston, grandson, Asher Swopes (age 3), three brothers, Roland Swopes (age 55) of Walla Walla, Loren Swopes (age 53) of Walla Walla, Weylen Swopes (age 47) of Walla Walla, one sister, Melissa Swopes (age 49) of Walla Walla, and stepfather, Richard Landers of Walla Walla. Amber Britton, Garrick Swopes, Makayla Morales, Hunter Swopes, Jesse Swopes, Tanner Swopes, Bridger Swopes, and Rena Swopes were among Gary's nieces and nephews.

Gary adored camping, hunting, fishing, and anything else related to the great outdoors. He had to learn to be fiercely independent and self-reliant after leaving home at the age of 14. He took great pride in his work as a meat specialist for many years. He was known for having a big heart and prioritizing the needs of others over his own.

The family will hold a private service at a later date. His final resting place will be in Dayton City Cemetery, surrounded by family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Walla Walla Community Hospice and the Blue Mountain Humane Society can be made through Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W Alder St, Walla Walla, WA  99362.
