Frank Kiyoshi Hamada

Frank Kiyoshi Hamada, 92, died March 12, 2015 surrounded by his family, in the home of his son.

Frank was born August 10, 1922, in Kent, WA to Jikichi and Hanayo Hamada. He graduated Kent High School in 1940 before being interned at Camp Harmony, Fresno, and Tulle Lake. Frank moved to the Walla Walla Valley in 1943 and began working to prepare for his family’s arrival from the internment camp in 1945.

On Sept. 20, 1954 he married June Oye and together they raised 4 children and farmed for 37 years.

Frank was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend. He was an avid gardener, fisherman, and enjoyed traveling with his wife and family. Frank loved watching his sons and grandchildren play sports and proudly supported his family’s endeavors. He loved going on drives to the Walla Walla River Packing house, playing golf, and having coffee with friends at the Elks.

Frank is survived by his brother Joe and children Laurie (Brian), Frank (Michele), Randy (Kathy), and Barry (Bernedette); grandchildren, Kim, Kristy, Erin, Kelsey, Lauren, and Paul; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife June and siblings Harry, Chuck, Alice, Maggie, Tom, and Karl.

Viewing & visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA. The funeral will be 11a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Herring Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens, Myra Road. Memorial donations may be made to Walla Walla Community Hospice through the funeral home.
