Frank Dunn, age 80, of Walla Walla passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla.
He was born on February 23, 1938, in Pullman, Washington, the fourth of eight children to the late Lonnie and Patricia Dunn. Frank went to school in Pullman. He had planned on playing college basketball at Wenatchee Valley Community College, but he decided to join the U.S. Army. Frank served in the Army and Army Reserves from 1958 to 1964.
Frank married Karen Leonard in 1961 and had three sons. They later divorced, and Frank married June Phinney in 1982.
Frank worked in advertising for the Walla Walla Union Bulletin and then for Glafke Distributing. In 1986, Frank, with his son Brent, started Barnaby’s Pub and it turned into a popular hangout in Walla Walla. After later selling Barnaby’s Pub, he returned to work at Glafke Distributing.
During his retirement years, Frank enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in youth sports, school sports, and school theater events.
Frank is survived by his three sons, Brent Dunn and his wife Juli of Walla Walla, Matt Dunn of Walla Walla, Mark Dunn and partner Kurt Kirstein of Monroe, Washington; two grandsons, Kyler and Kelson Dunn of Walla Walla; siblings, Clayton Dunn and his wife Linda of Spokane; Pat Dunn and his wife Linda of Woodland, Washington; Mary Church of Mio, Michigan; and Gladys Breckenridge and her husband Gary of Spokane; sister-in-law, Donna Byus and husband Tim of Spokane; June’s children, Patty and Gordon Hale, and daughter Geneva; Will and Arlene Phinney, and daughter Jessica and son Reuben; and Tom Phinney; and a number of nephews, nieces, other relatives and close friends.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, June; parents, Lonnie and Patricia Dunn; and three brothers, Bernard, Jim and Vincent.
A private service for the family will be held on Monday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. A memorial reception will be held from 12 Noon – 2 p.m. at the home of Brent and Juli Dunn, located at 146 Cougar Creek Dr in Walla Walla.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Frank’s name to Walla Walla Catholic Schools through Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
