Florence Standish Richards Brooks passed away at Brookdale Retirement Community on March 16, 2017 at the age of 99.
Florence was born on November 13, 1917 in Brooklyn, New York to Florence and George Richards.
She attended public schools in Brooklyn. She graduated from the Packer Collegiate Institute in 1936 and from Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in 1939.
Florence joined the Red Cross in 1942 and worked with the Red Cross Blood Donor Service during World War II.
She married Dr. Peter Brooks in New York in February of 1942. In 1949, they moved to the Walla Walla Valley where Dr. Brooks joined the Walla Walla Clinic. They were later divorced in 1974.
Florence was active in the Little Theater. She volunteered at Walla Walla High School in the nurse’s office as a Registered Nurse. She also did volunteer work at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where she was a long time member.
She is survived by her son, Peter Thacher Brooks, Jr. and his wife, Deborah of College Place, Washington and her granddaughter, Whitney Brooks Padden and her husband, Justin of Beaverton, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Burial will be at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, New York.
