Evelyn Simon passed away peacefully
at 11:20 a.m. on Thursday, June 30,
at home in Walla Walla, at the age of
90. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and
friend to many. The youngest of four daughters, she
was born in Walla Walla to Carl and Florence (McElroy)
Archer.
After graduating high school in Walla Walla in 1942,
she was employed by McCaw General Hospital. She
met her future husband at the Wishing Well Lounge
in the Marcus Whitman Hotel. They were married
June 18, 1944, in Walla Walla. They lived in Seattle
and Portland, where she worked at Poor Richards
Restaurant, before moving back to Walla Walla in
1971. Chuck and Evelyn purchased Tommy’s Dutch
Lunch in 1971 and also leased Tommy’s at the Airport
for 20 years.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon
Osborn, (who died from cancer on April 4, 2012);
and her three sisters, Pat Rogers, Marjorie Swanson
and Nadine Harman. She is survived by her husband
of 72 years, Charles (Chuck); son-in-law. Ross
Osborn of Walla Walla; nieces, Janet Schwartz, Bonnie
Carter, Marjorie Shackleford, Karleen Grummett
and Mary Carlton.
Evelyn enjoyed cooking and baking, working in her
garden and flower beds, playing bridge with friends
and serving at her church, the Pioneer Methodist
Church. She will be missed for her sense of humor
and laughter, friendship, caring and loving personality.
Graveside services will be held at Mountain View
Cemetery, Thursday, July 14, 2016, at 10 a.m. with
Rev. Tom Telfer officiating. Viewing and visitation
will be held on July 13, 2013, at the Herring Groseclose
Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of
the donor’s choice through the funeral home.
