Evelyn Lynn Patterson, 64, passed
away peacefully surrounded by her family
and friends on Jan. 22, 2016, at her
home. Evelyn was born in Walla Walla on May 18,
1951, to L.D. and Patricia Bean McCubbins.
She attended Touchet schools and graduated from
there in 1969. While attending school she was the
1967 May Day Princess, 1967 FFA Sweetheart and
the 1969 May Day Queen. After her graduation from
Touchet High School, Evelyn attended and graduated
from the Victor Beauty School in 1970 and went on
to work at the Village Beauty Shop. Her other places
of employment include the Job Masters Employment
Agency, Sherwood and Roberts and the St. Mary Hospital
until her retirement due to health issues.
Evelyn married the love of her life and “Soul
Mate” Donald E. Patterson on June 21, 1970, at the
Touchet Community Church. As a couple they were
very involved in the Five Point 4-Wheelers and Pacific
Northwest 4-Wheel Drive Association and participated
in several dirt drag racing events; winning
first place during Summer Convention 1975. Evelyn
loved spending time in the mountains, especially at
the family’s cabin during hunting season. Evelyn was
also a fisherman and became a member of the Snake
River Bass Masters and participated in several tournaments
with her husband.
Evelyn’s community service never waned throughout
her life. She participated in the reforestation project
after the tussock moth infestation of the 1970s; began
the “Angel Hope” ministry in 2006 and joined the
KOPS/Kid One Charity Organization in 2007. She
became a member of the Dixie Christian Church in
1993 and was an active deaconess beginning in 1994,
and the secretary in 2007 through March of 2013.
Her top priority was her service to the Lord!
Evelyn was quite the artist. While in junior high
school she won a poster contest through the Walla
Walla County Extension Office with a chalk drawing
addressing soil conservation. At age 14 she entered a
contest to draw a portrait of a favorite star, and placed
sixth among 10 winners in the U.S. and Canada with
her pencil drawing of Paul McCartney. Her accomplishments
from this were published in “Teen Circle”
Magazine. In 1967, Evelyn entered a radio contest
by composing an announcement for a Liverpool Five
Concert at the Natatorium in Walla Walla, which was
the winning entry.
Evelyn is survived by her parents, L.D. and Goldie
McCubbins of Walla Walla, Patricia and Leroy Mason
