Eugene Troy Stapleton

September 9, 1963 — November 2, 2025

Walla Walla

Troy passed away peacefully at his home on November 2, 2025, at the age of 62, of Post Cortical Atrophy (PCA), a rare form of Alzheimer's that distorts visual processing and spatial reasoning. He wore many hats: husband, father, son, brother, papa, and friend. He was surrounded by the love of his family.

Born and raised in the Walla Walla Valley, Troy was an original Walla Walla Sweet, in more ways than one. His kind nature, his big bear hugs, and his willingness to always help others made him very special. He received his education locally at Green Park Elementary, Pioneer Middle School, Walla Walla High School, and Walla Walla Community College, where he studied for an electrical technician certification.

He had a love of mechanics, building, and creating from his youth through adolescence. He could be found with friends, in someone's garage or his father's shop, working on bikes, go-karts, cars, and trucks. His baby was a 1956 Ford F100. As an adult, the projects became much larger, including roofing, electrical work, plumbing, and rebuilding more than one home. He was a jack-of-all-trades and always eager to share and teach his skills to anyone who needed help.

He worked 30-plus years with Boise/PCA in Wallula as a die-cut operator, and his last two years of employment were with the Walla Walla School District.

Troy is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Tammy Pauley Stapleton. They met and fell in love at a Wheelin' Walla Walla Weekend Street Dance. She has said that she has had a crush on him since high school. So, when Troy asked her to dance, they were off and running. Tammy has been an invaluable volunteer for Wheelin' Walla Walla for many years and still is. They both loved the car show and continued volunteering every year together until Troy couldn't. She will miss not having him there next year. They were married on May 17, 2003, and blended their two families. Their time together was full. Family gatherings, time with friends, camping trips, kayaking, adventures to the beach and mountains, and numerous home projects.

In addition to his wife Tammy, Troy is survived by: parents: Gene and Kathy Stapleton, sister and brother-in-law: Sue and Greg Cresci, son: Cody Davey, Spouse Corinna, grandchildren: Kaylee Rae, Kimber, Michael, and Crane, son: Sterling Stapleton, spouse Allicia, grandchildren: Phoenix and Brooklynn, mother-in-law: Sharon Pauley, and countless nieces and nephews who adored him.
