Ernest “Henry” Charlo passed away Jan. 28, 2016, at his home.
A graveside service for family and friends will be held on Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, at noon at Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens, 300 S.E. Myra Road, College Place.
Henry was born on May 30, 1922, in Walla Walla to Vincenzo (Jim) Ciarlo and Giuseppina (Josephine) D’Ippolito Ciarlo.
He attended Braden School and Walla Walla High School. In 1942 he joined the U.S. Army, serving stateside with the military police and achieving the
rank of corporal. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He then came back to Walla Walla and worked for Curcio Meats, retiring from there in 1989.
On Nov. 10, 1951, Henry married Virginia Mae Sams, and they settled and raised their family in Walla Walla. Throughout the years he enjoyed working with livestock and gardening, always sharing his garden labors with numerous friends and family. He especially enjoyed spending time with family whenever possible. His candid wit and smile were appreciated by all who knew him.
Henry is survived by his loving wife, Virginia; his daughter, Rebecca (John) Fazzari of Clarkston, Wash.; his son, David (Jenny) Charlo of Clarkston, Wash.; and his daughter, Debra Charlo of Walla Walla; granddaughters, Breann (Justin) Klinginsmith of Clarkston, Wash., Cory (Mike) Webster of Hayden, Idaho; great-grandson, Parks Klinginsmith of Clarkston, Wash.; great-granddaughter, Noelle Webster of Hayden, Idaho; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rosemary Callan and Jennie Weseman; and brothers, Frank Charlo, Louis Charlo and Edward Ciarlo.
