Ermila Garcia Gonzalez

Ermila Garcia Gonzalez of Walla Walla passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, following a lengthy illness.

Ermila was born in Bastrop, Texas, on Aug. 26, 1942, to parents Benjamin and Elena Hernandez Garcia. Following her marriage to Francisco Gonzalez Sr. in 1960, Ermila eventually moved to Walla Walla, where
she lived until her death.

A single mother, Ermila is survived by her seven children,
Annette, Francisco (Jr.), Victoria, Cevero, Elena, Ermelinda (and son-in-law, Juan) and Nueme; as well as 14 grandchildren, including Erica — who she raised as a daughter; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Ermila cherished her role as family matriarch, dispensing
insight and wisdom to her children and others on all
manner of topics and concerns. Her wisdom, beauty, disarming smile, charm and laugh will live in our hearts forever.

Ermila was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Elena; as well as all of her siblings, Torivio, Marianna, Lucinda, Julia, Juaquin, Albino, Victor and
Cecilio.

Ermila’s family also wishes to thank the physicians and medical staff at Providence St. Mary Medical Center and Walla Walla Community Hospice for their competent and compassionate care.

Viewing and visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 23, from 10 a.m. until after the Rosary at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla.
The Rosary will be recited on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 5:30 p.m. with Deacon Olegario and Dora Reyes officiating at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church with father Jeff Core celebrating. Memorial contributions may be made to the
American Diabetes Foundation through the funeral home.
