Erma B. Kaup passed away at Wheatland Village in Walla Walla.
Services are to be held at Wheatland Village Chapel, 1500 Catherine St., on Friday May 8, 2015, at 1 p.m. with Chaplin Steve Cromwell. Private family interment. A gathering of friends and family will be held right after the service at Wheatland Village.
Erma is survived by her children, George Kaup of Walla Walla, Robin Kaup and wife Sherri Kaup of Silverton, Ore., Teresa Clough and husband Dave Clough of Joseph, Ore. Erma has one living sister, Pat Butcherite of Wenatchee, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and 14 great children. Preceded in death by her husband, Fred Kaup Sr., died 2009; and son, Fred Kaup Jr., died 2014; father and mother, Lloyd and Mabel Goff; two sisters, Genieve Thompson and Jean Kemp.
As a child, Erma Kaup lived for several years with her aunt and uncle on a ranch in Telecast, Ore. Erma and Fred were married Aug. 28, 1948, in Salt Lake City then moved to Umatilla, where they lived in a box car until they built their first home. Erma did say the box car was clean. Erma and Fred raised four children in Athena, where they started their first grocery business.
Then working alongside each other, they invested in other grocery stores and other ventures. Later in life, Erma and her husband, Fred, spent time at their ranch in Joseph, Ore., and a home in the Phoenix area. Erma enjoyed watching sports (especially baseball), swimming, being at hunting camp, fishing, took up golf, enjoyed going to auctions, traveling to see the grandkids during the summers, and taking cruises twice a year. Erma was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed the services at Wheatland Village.
