Emma Brittain passed away peacefully at The Washington Odd Fellows Home on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at the age of 92.
Emma will be forever remembered as an outgoing tell it like it is, but in a loving way, individual who enjoyed being involved in the community and her church.
Emma was born to Anna and Carl Koehler on February 15, 1925 on the family farm 3 miles east of Paha, Washington. She was the fourth of seven siblings. She graduated from Lind high school in 1943.
The family moved to Walla Walla shortly after graduation, where she started working at the Pacific Telephone company.
She married her husband Bart Brittain on April 1, 1950 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where she remained a member of the congregation until her death.
Throughout her life Emma was involved in many community events. In the 50’s she was actively involved in the Mother’s March on Polo later becoming the March of Dimes. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and Rebekah lodge.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Connie), and Brian (Lisa). She leaves behind 6 grandchildren, 8 nephews, 2 nieces and numerous grand nephews and nieces and close friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Carlyle “Bart” Brittain, her son Larry J. Brittain and her siblings.
A Graveside Service for Emma will be held at Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens on Saturday, January 27 at 10:45 AM. A Memorial Service will follow at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Saturday, January 27 at 11:15 AM with Reverend Mark Koonz, Officiating.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Larry J. Brittain scholarship at Blue Mountain Community Foundation P.O. Box 603, Walla Walla, or Emmanuel Lutheran Church at 628 Lincoln Street in Walla Walla through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home.
