Elizabeth “Liz” Eubanks McCracken, 70, a lifelong Walla Walla resident, passed away February 24, 2026, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center.
Liz was born April 12, 1955, in Walla Walla, Washington, to Robert and Rosemary Fowler Eubanks, joining her 16-year-old sister, Lin. She spent her early years on Lincoln Street in Walla Walla, a neighborhood she remembered fondly for its close-knit community and built-in playmates.
As soon as she could stand upright, her father, Bob, taught her to ski, beginning a lifelong love of the sport. The Eubanks family joined other Walla Walla families each year for train trips to Sun Valley, Idaho, creating treasured memories on the slopes. During her grade school years, Liz also attended Camp Sweyolakan on Coeur d’Alene Lake with her Eubanks cousins.
Liz graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1973 and attended Washington State University. She later returned home to Walla Walla, where she worked for several local banks. In 1977, she met Danny McCracken, and they were married on September 18, 1981, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Liz was proud to be part of the emerging cellular phone industry when cell towers first came to the area in the early 1990s. She was also an inaugural volunteer with the Walla Walla Balloon Stampede, where she specialized in balloon pilot relations for many years. She later retired from Walla Walla Hospice.
Travel brought Liz great joy. Favorite destinations included Japan, Europe, Hawaii, and the Oregon Coast. She especially loved traveling around the country to support Dan as he competed at a high level in bowling tournaments. An excellent cook and baker, Liz generously shared her creations with friends and family. She was also a talented artist who later channeled her creativity into ceramics. Throughout their marriage, Liz and Dan shared a love of English Bull Terriers, and Liz never missed a chance to greet a dog wherever she went.
Liz is survived by her devoted husband, Danny; brother-in-law, Charlie Shoemaker; nephews, Paul Shoemaker (Denise) and Matthew Shoemaker (Keri); nieces, Mindy Shoemaker and Amy Pepper (Jason); brother-in-law, Gary McCracken; sister-in-law, Patty McCracken; and many beloved cousins on both sides of her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Lin Shoemaker.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W Alder St, Walla Walla, WA 99362. Friends and family are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.herringgroseclose.com.
