Betty Lou Brooker, 90, of 354 Boyer Avenue, passed away July 7, 2024, at the Washington Odd Fellows Home for seniors.
Betty was born May 20, 1934, in Malta, Montana, to Joseph and Ruth Sabins-King. At the age of eight, the family moved to North Dakota, where she attended school. After completing high school, Betty attended Saint Joseph’s Nursing School in Minot, achieving her goal of becoming a registered nurse.
In 1955, Betty married Richard Williams (divorced in 1980) and was blessed with five children. In 1960, the family moved to the Walla Walla Valley, where she worked over the next 36 years at the Blue Mountain Convalescent Center in College Place and the WA Odd Fellows Home in Walla Walla, where she retired in 1996.
Betty enjoyed crocheting, cooking, crossword puzzles, playing bingo, and was an avid reader.
In 1993, Betty married Seth (Bud) Brooker of Walla Walla (Bud was also born in Malta, Montana). They lived together for the next 16 years, loving every minute of their marriage until Bud died in 2009.
Over the years, Betty lost the use of her legs and spent the remainder of her life requiring the use of a wheelchair. In 2012, Betty moved into the Odd Fellows Assisted Living portion, making new friends like Dottie Monahan, who spent hours keeping Betty company in her final days ( Thank you).
Betty is survived by her children, Ed Williams (Nilda) of College Place, Sandy Geary (Marty) of Tallahassee, Florida, Kathi Williams of Tallahassee, Florida, Shawn Williams (Debbie) of Walla Walla, and Todd Williams of Olympia, Washington; siblings, Marsha Schettler of North Dakota, Debbie Bergevin (Tom) of Walla Walla, and Gary King (Linda) of Phoenix Arizona. Betty cherished the 11 grandchildren brought into her life and felt blessed with the seven great-grandchildren that followed.
Betty is joining loved family members, parents, Joseph and Ruth Sabins-King; brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Pat King; brother-in-law, Ben Schettler; and grandson, Ryan; plus numerous niece/nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
A rosary is planned for Friday, July 19, 2024, at 6:00 PM at the Chapel of the Herring Funeral Home. The funeral mass will be celebrated the next day, Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Andrew O’Leary, Celebrant. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
