Elizabeth (Dykstra) Baird, 85, passed away July 27, 2026, at her home in Walla Walla, WA. She was born in Auburn, WA and graduated from Auburn Senior High School in 1958. She went on to study Pharmacy at Washington State University, graduating with highest honors. She retired from Providence St. Mary Medical Center in 2011 after nearly 30 years.
Liz was a member of the American Association of University Women, the Walla Walla Community College Quest program, an avid reader, a lifelong learner, and greatly enjoyed her garden. She fervently supported Washington State University (Go COUGS!), the Blue Mountain Land Trust, Walla Walla Community Hospice, the Walla Walla Symphony and the Red Cross (donating blood at least 192 times). She volunteered often, including many hours helping people prepare their taxes at no cost through an AARP program. She had a quick, dry wit that her family and many friends thoroughly enjoyed.
She is survived by her children, Dean Baird of Kennewick, Joe (Renae) Baird of Cheney, Dave Baird of Walla Walla and Julie Baird, also of Walla Walla; her grandchildren David, Logan, Lauren and Brian Baird; great-grandchildren Ashlynn and Kyle; her brother, Peter (Cindy) Dykstra, sister Bert Beck, each of Chehalis; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends whom she treasured. She was preceded in death by her sister Nellie Funnel, of Ponoka Alberta.
A celebration of life will be held on September 19, 2026, at noon at 159-20 Frogner Road in Chehalis, WA. A local celebration with cake and coffee will be held on August 29, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at 1903 Carl Street, Walla Walla.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the AAUW, your local hospice, or simply donating blood. She believed in giving back.
