Edward H. O’Boyle passed away peacefully on September 24, 2014 in Walla Walla.
Edward was born on May 7, 1923 in Elmira, New York, the second son of Harry C. and Gertrude H. O’Boyle. Ed graduated high school in 1941 and attended the University of Pennsylvania until mid-1942 when World War II broke out. Ed followed his brother, Robert, by enlisting December 1942 in the Army Air Force.
After completing pilot training in May 1944, Ed served as an officer piloting B24 bombing missions with the 8th Air Force stationed out of England.
During pilot training in Walla Walla, Washington, Ed met the love of his life. When Ed separated service March 1946, he returned to Walla Walla and in July married Marjorie J. Smith of Walla Walla.
In August 1956, the couple moved to Seattle where Ed completed his education as a 1958 graduate of the University of Washington. They remained in Seattle, Washington until Ed’s retirement as a CPA from the Internal Revenue Service, Department of Treasury in 1979. They moved to Hayden Lake, Idaho where they resided until late 1997. There Ed served as the treasurer for the Avondale Golf Course. Ed and Marjorie continued to be avid downhill skiers, golfers, and loved camping, hiking and fishing together.
In December 2000, Marjorie, passed away in the Kootenai County hospital and was laid to rest in Mountain View Cemetery in Walla Walla. Edward O’Boyle remained in Post Falls until November of 2003, when he returned to Walla Walla.
Edward is preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; his brother, Robert H. O’Boyle of Green Valley, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews. He is survived by his brother’s wife, Jeanne O’Boyle and several nieces and nephews.
Viewing & visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA. The Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Herring Funeral Home with Rev. Albert Gillin officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, American Lung Association, Alzheimer’s Foundation, Shriner’s Hospital of Portland, Oregon or charity of the donor’s choice through the funeral home.
