Douglas Lee Heimgartner, 72, died March 16, 2015. Doug was born on March 3, 1943 to Leo and Wanetta Heimgartner in Lewiston, Idaho. He graduated from Lewiston High School, joined the National Guard, and attended Washington State University. He received his bachelors in Business Administration from WSU and became a CPA soon thereafter.

He moved to Walla Walla, Washington where he began his career with Niemi Holland & Scott, later becoming a partner within the firm.

He married Patsy Dodd from Touchet, Washington on July 24, 1976. Doug’s only child, Gregory Lee Heimgartner was born on October 17, 1979.

He loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. Doug’s dedication to his work was incredible and he especially enjoyed working with the region’s farmers. He worked extensively on tax law and with the United States Congress on agricultural legislation in support of our Nation’s farming community.

Doug was a 49 year member of Lewiston Elks Lodge #896 and an associate member of Walla Walla Elks Lodge #287.

Doug is survived by his companion, Patsy; his son, Greg; and two brothers, Louis Heimgartner (Alice) of Lewiston Idaho, and Larry Heimgarter (Debbie) of Wilmington, California. He is also survived by one niece, Jody Meling (David) of Walla Walla, Washington and one nephew Scott Heimgartner of Lewiston, Idaho. Doug also had numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Viewing & visitation will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2015 from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA 99362. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, followed by a reception to be held at the Walla Walla Elks Lodge #287, 351 E Rose St, Walla Walla, WA 99362. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the NRA Foundation Youth Hunting Education Endowment (he was very passionate about firearm safety, gun rights, and youth hunting), The Walla Walla Elks Lodge #287 or Lewiston Elks Lodge #896 or the charity of your choice through the funeral home.
