Doris Lenora Sanders, 94, passed away peacefully at Quail Run Retirement Community with her husband of 72 years at her side.
Doris was born to Harry and Ada Pettyjohn on June 3, 1923, near Prescott. She married James Willard Sanders in Walla Walla on March 28, 1945, and moved to Prescott where they raised turkeys for 20 years. They opened Sanders General Store and later a fertilizer business, Sanders Farm Supply. Doris worked at the Post Office in Prescott and Waitsburg. She was a member of the Prescott Homemakers Club, the Ivy Cemetery Association, and worked countless hours in the LDS church genealogy library.
She leaves behind her husband, James W. Sanders; son, Martin Sanders of Kennewick; daughter, Debra Lane of Tekoa, WA; grandchildren, John M. Kerr (Marie), Alyssa VanPelt (Sean), Wesley Kerr (Sheena); eight great-grandchildren, John C., Marshall, Laurel, Doris, Abigail, Alyssan, AdaLynn, and Aubriana; 95 surviving nieces and nephews, including grand and great-grand.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Elbert Pettyjohn, and sister-in-law, Ruby Pettyjohn; two nieces, Robin and Ada.
Viewing and Visitation will be held Monday, October 23, 2017 at 9:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 23, 2017, at 10 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Walla Walla, Washington.
Interment will follow at the Ivy Cemetery in Prescott, Washington.
Memorial Contribution may be made to the Ivy Cemetery Association in Doris’ name through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home 315 W Alder Walla Walla, WA.
