Doris Clydene Chickering

Our family is saddened by the death of our mother, Doris C. (Fairchild) Chickering on Dec. 27, 2013 at her home in Walla Walla, WA. Doris was born to Walter and Grace Fairchild on March 27, 1927 in Palisade, Nebraska.

The Fairchilds came to Walla Walla in May of 1939. Doris graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1945. While working at the local telephone company as an operator, she met Donald A. Chickering. They were married on May 4, 1945 in Yakima, WA. The Chickerings made their first home in Portland, Oregon where their son, Dana, was born. Later the family, moved to Eugene, Oregon where their daughter, Diana Marie, was born.

They resided in Eugene until 1964 when they moved to Sparks, NV. Doris traveled extensively with her husband throughout the United States and 19 foreign countries. Upon Don's retirement in 1984, the couple returned to Walla Walla and was active in Walla Walla Historical Auto Club and Elks Lodge. As a widow after 41 years of marriage, Doris returned to Sparks to be closer to and be part of her grandchildren's lives. Doris was very proud of her 7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and especially the birth of her great great grandson. In 2012, she moved back to Walla Walla to live out the remainder of her life.

She led a very full active life and loved helping and being around people. Doris enjoyed traveling, telling stories of her travels, shopping for bargains, flower gardening and landscaping. She delighted in collecting dolls, sewing, reading and researching her family's genealogy.

Doris is survived by her son, Dana Chickering of Sparks, NV and daughter, Diana Marie Brymer of Sierra Vista, AZ; her grandchildren, Kristina (Michael) Eastham, David and Michael Chickering of Reno, NV; JacqueLynne (Kevin) Hollingsworth of Vidor, TX; Anna Paisley, Grant and Seth Brymer of Sierra Vista, AZ; her great-grandchildren Kristian, Chantell, John, Melissa, Gavin, Jordan, and Cameron of Reno, NV and Alysa, Christian, Roydan, Maggie, Parker, Ryan, Dalton, Devron and Leah of Vidor, TX and great-great grandson Jaxton Lee of Reno, NV. Doris is preceded in death by her husband Donald, parents, Grace and Walter, and son-in-law, Ralph.

Doris will be loved and missed by all her family members including siblings, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

There will be a graveside service for Doris on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Mountain View Cemetery.
