Doria Victoria Jacky

July 21, 1928 — February 5, 2024

Walla Walla

Doris Victoria (Anderson) Jacky passed away at her home in Walla Walla, WA, on February 5, 2024, at the age of 95.

Born on July 21, 1928, she was fond of recalling that she was born at home on the family ranch near Clyde, WA -- because it was the middle of harvest. She attended a one-room schoolhouse with her siblings in Clyde through the 8th grade, after which they moved to Walla Walla, WA, where Doris attended Walla Walla High School, graduating in 1945. Continuing her education, she studied English and Business at Washington State College, graduating with a general degree in 1949. During this time, she met and married Carl F. Jacky, Jr.

After graduating college, Doris and Carl spent time on the Anderson family ranch farming, then at Carl's family business, Jacky's Flowers. Moving from Walla Walla, they farmed for 20 years, raising wheat, barley, and children near Ritzville, WA. During these years, Doris was active in Girl Scout Brownie leadership, women's clubs (American Association of University Women and Junior Club), Church, and driving her children to their many activities.

Returning to Walla Walla and Jacky's Flowers, she worked in the office while continuing with her other activities. She was president of the Walla Walla AAUW chapter, a member of Altrusa, and on the board. She led women's Bible studies, taught Sunday school, and sang a beautiful soprano in the choir at Central Christian Church.

Doris is survived by her children, Karen (Ken) Hart of Walla Walla, Diane Avery of Grand Rapids, MI, Janet (Kelly) Lee of Walla Walla, Ellen (Bill) Buono of Schenectady, NY, and Lance (Lucia) Jacky of Tarzana, CA; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Melvin and Bessie (Bruce) Anderson; her sisters, Jean Wooten, Corleen Pittman, and Muriel Jessee; brothers, James Vedder, Orrin Anderson; husband, Carl Jacky, Jr; daughter, Linda Jacky; and granddaughters, Casi Sellers and Golden Lee.

Viewing and visitation will be held Monday, February 12, 2024, from 2-6 pm at Herrings-Groseclose Funeral Home.
