Donna D. Rose

March 3, 1928 — June 18, 2014

Donna D. Rose passed away June 18, 2014 at Park Manor Nursing and Rehab where she had been a resident for several years.

Donna was born in Jamestown, North Dakota, on March 3, 1928 to Carl and Irene Herzog. She was the oldest sister of 3 girls and 2 brothers. Her father was in the grocery business so the family moved frequently. One of their moves brought them to Sandpoint, Idaho where she met and married her “Navy Man”, Lloyd, who was stationed at Farragut, Idaho. They were engaged via the mail when he sent her engagement ring to her mom with a letter proposing marriage and that wedding ring he put on her finger June 17, 1947, stayed there for over 60 years.

Lloyd’s Navy career took them to California, Hawaii, Missouri and other ports of call. Daughter, Cindy was born in San Diego, daughter, Debbie, was born in Astoria, Oregon. Retiring from the Navy after 30 years, they moved to Walla Walla where Lloyd worked in the prison hospital and also Pay N Pak. Donna was active in the Lutheran Church and received a lifetime membership award and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. She and her friends had a regular coffee group at McDonald for many, many, years. She was active in Girl Scouts and Meals on Wheels, and all school activities. She was a HUGE supporter of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in sports. A fixture at Touchet and Wa-Hi basketball, baseball, volleyball games, soccer, Little League, as well as concerts. From her wheelchair, she cheered for WWCC basketball, LC basketball, and helped ‘coach’ the Wa-Hi girls varsity basketball team. She also was a big Coug and Mariner fan.

She was part of the Park Manor family and loved them as their ‘grandma’.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; son, Lloyd, Jr.; sisters, Marlys Shook, Carla Fry; brothers, Richard Herzog, and Calvin Herzog and her parents. She is survived by daughters, Cindy Fish and Deborah (Mike) Short, as well as grandsons, Cory Fish (Tara), and Conor Fish, granddaughters, Lacy Short, Sadie Frazer (Justin) and great grandkids, Sophie Fish, Riley and Landrie Moyer and her many, many, friends.

The Memorial Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Christ Lutheran Church. There will be a private family interment.
