Donald H. Palmer of Walla Walla passed away May 17, 2014. Donald was born and raised in Walla Walla and was of Scottish and German decent. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac (Scotty) Palmer, Lydia (Linda) Gradwohl Palmer; and uncles, William and Fred Gradwohl.
Don was an accomplished trap shooter, having received many awards. He also loved to golf until a few years ago. Don was a member of the Walla Walla Country Club, a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, Exchange Club past president, VFW member and the Moose Lodge in Waldport, Ore. Don served in the U.S. Navy and then attended Eastern Washington University before going into his family’s business, Scotty’s Men Shop, on Main Street in Walla Walla. He retired from the Washington State Penitentiary as a correctional officer.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Deanna (Bogle) Palmer; son, Gregory Palmer; daughter, Lynette Palmer-France, both of Walla Walla; two grandsons, Garrett Palmer of Walla Walla and Brant/Amanda France of Twin Falls, Idaho; one great grandson, Aidan France of Twin Falls, Idaho; cousin, Nancy (Gradwohl) Austin of Walla Walla.
A private family interment is planned. A celebration of life will be held at the Walla Walla Elks Lodge on June 28, 2014, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Walla Walla Community Hospice, American Cancer Society or charity of choice through Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
