Don was born July 1, 1930 in Hot Springs, South Dakota. He was the son of Frederick “Fritz” Merrill and Anita Gooden. He passed away February 3, 2015 at the Odd Fellows Care Facility in Walla Walla, WA. He was a long time resident of Touchet, Washington.
Don is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alma Workman Merrill; his daughter, LeeAnn Henderson (Michael); his son, Rick Merrill (Dodi); 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Gary; and his sister, Lorine.
Don was a school bus driver for the Touchet School District, a truck driver and a carpenter. He loved to make clocks, children’s toys and furniture. Woodworking brought him much joy.
He had a favorite Red Chevy Pickup. In the summer, he would drive around Touchet with the ice chests full of pop, offering cool drinks to whoever would need it.
At Don’s request, there will be no services. The family is planning a memorial celebration at a later date. On his behalf, memorial contributions may be made to the Touchet Educational Foundation or Walla Walla Community Hospice through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA.
Special thanks go to the loving staff of the Odd Fellows Care Facility.
