Dr. Donald Merrill Mack

July 10, 1925 — November 19, 2012

Donald Merrill Mack, 87, died peacefully Nov. 19, 2012, in Walla Walla. He was born July 10, 1925, to James Henry and Sarah Grace (Merrill) Mack in Battle Ground, Wash.

He attended schools there through high school in Meadow Glade. He attended Walla Walla College, graduating in 1952. He attended Loma Linda Medical School, graduating in 1956. He practiced old school medicine in Boise, Idaho; Nairobi, Kenya; Long Beach, Calif.; and Portland, Ore. He delivered hundreds of babies, performed many surgeries, and drove many miles to go on a house call and also knew his patient’s whole families.

He retired from medicine at Portland Adventist Hospital after approximately 37 years of service. A loving and generous father and husband first and a dedicated Christian physician second, he spent the majority of his life caring for others. With the help of his loving wife they adopted and cared for four children. They moved to Walla Walla, where he lived until his death.

Surviving are his wife, Lydia Rosin Mack; son, Randall Mack of Honolulu; daughters, Dawn K. Dawes of Walla Walla, Patti Kay (Dan) Bray of Harker Heights, Texas, Carrie (Robert) Carreon of Redlands; four grandchildren, Eric Dawes of College Place, Tyler (Jessica) Bray of Fort Worth, Texas, Jordan Bray of Harker Heights, Texas, and Ariel Munoz of Honolulu; one great-granddaughter, Skyla of Hawaii; one sister, Ruth Marsh of Portland, Ore. He was preceded in death by brother, Randall James; sister, Eleanor Wienecke; and son-in-law, Allen Dawes.

A Memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Seventh day Adventist College Place Village Church Chapel. Graveside will be held Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the Brush Prairie Cemetery.
