Darlene Decoria

July 14, 1946 — January 28, 2013

Darlene DeCoria (Granny D) was called to her Heavenly home surrounded by the love of her family on Jan. 28, 2013. She was born July 14, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Beryl and Lillian Stone. She later moved to Washington and was currently serving as mayor of the city of Prescott.

She completed her schooling at WWCC, earning her LPN certification. Her nursing career spanned over 15 years. Although officially retiring in 2004, taking care of others, especially those she loved, was a lifelong commission. Prior to nursing she owned a restaurant in Starbuck. Cooking for others was a great love of hers. A normal weekend meal was nothing short of a Thanksgiving feast.

One of Darlene’s greatest joys was being a mother and grandmother and spending time with her family. She treasured them and often stated her greatest desire was that they would always know they were loved. Her love for her family was unconditional and bestowed a sense of security and stability to all it touched. No matter what was going on around, her love made everything okay. She never forgot a birthday or special occasion and would often send cards, just because. One of the fondest memories of her grandchildren was being members of the AOC Club- Prescott Division which Darlene founded. Her love extended to her “babies,” her toy Pomeranians.

Her relationship with Christ was most important to her. She lived her faith and had a tremendous capacity to love others. I John 14:16-18 tells us “…God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God and God in them… There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear…We love because He first loved us.” She was also extremely generous with her time, resources, support and encouragement.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Steve and Fred Stone; and her granddaughter, Penny DeCoria. She is survived by her sons, Martin (Lanna) Rowlette, David Rowlette and Sylvan (Darcie) DeCoria; her daughter, Debby (Richard) Jackson; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A service to honor Darlene’s life will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, at 1 p.m. at the Prescott Community Church.
