Daniel Dean Mccauley

Dan McCauley, 72, of Walla Walla, Washington, passed away unexpectedly on September 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on August 4, 1953, to Harry and Norma McCauley and grew up with his siblings, Ron and Vickie. An entrepreneur from a young age, he began with a paper route and lawn-mowing business before opening Sun Rental, a construction rental company he grew successfully within Washington.

He met his childhood sweetheart, Cathy Griswold, at Berney Elementary, and together they shared 42 years of marriage filled with love, partnership, and four children: Shane, Travis, Garrett, and Jenna. After Cathy's passing, he married Karen Heimbigner, with whom he continued to share adventures and meaningful years.

A devoted father, he coached countless youth sports teams and taught his children the value of hard work and family. He loved to travel -- searching for saddles in Mexico, spending winters with his horses in Arizona and summers in Wallowa Lake and even flying on his own across the world to Africa. Known for his incredible strength, gift for storytelling, and ability to make a friend wherever he went. Dan also had a deep bond with his loyal dogs, Sage and Savannah, who were always by his side.

He is survived by his loving wife, Karen; his children; his siblings; his nine beloved grandchildren -- Braeden, Trey, Quentin, William, Jameson, Emilia, Gramercy, Lexington, and Aurelia -- with two more on the way. His legacy of love, adventure, and generosity will forever live on in those who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Walla Walla Wagon Wheelers, 378 South Hussey, Walla Walla, WA 99362. Donations in Dan's honor may be made to Samaritan's Purse.
