Daniel Lee Givens, Jr. passed away on September 27, 2022, surrounded by family at his Kooskooskie home. After a brave battle with Cancer and a life mostly on the road, it was his wish to be home. His “band of brothers” came to California to break him out of the hospital and make the trip home. He is survived by his wife, Brooke; parents, Dan and Linda Givens; grandparents, Eldon and Gloria Otis; brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Carrie Givens.
Lee is also survived by a family of working brothers that he and Tomas brought together over a number of years. Brothers that acted as one. Brothers that loved and honored each other as blood. They worked beside Lee in the good times and suffered with him during his illness. Lee is survived by a special, true gentleman that provided Lee and his brothers opportunity. He was Lee’s friend, mentor, and idol. And like the rest of this amazing work family, he stood by Lee with support and encouragement to the end. Thank you Tom!
There is no doubt that Lee liked the finer things in life. But what he LOVED was working to achieve an improbable goal in order to experience those finer things. Lee’s experiences were his lifeblood. He wanted to see everything, go everywhere, meet everyone and wring every bit of enjoyment he could out of each. He was keenly interested in every story told by the people he encountered. He didn’t simply want to know how your day was… he was interested in how the totality of your life brought you to how your day was. Status was immaterial to Lee. He was as interested in a homeless man’s life as he was in a wealthy man’s life and gave equal respect to each. Kindness and generosity were something intuitive to Lee, and he didn’t give a second thought to helping others, financially or otherwise. He had sympathy for those that suffered, empathy for those fighting to better themselves, and understanding for those content with their trajectory.
Most often, Lee was the life of the party, with a bigger-than-life persona that one couldn’t help but admire. He loved to laugh and loved that others couldn’t help themselves but to laugh right along with him.
Lee will be missed by many. Lee will be remembered for generations. Lee will be a part of those who knew him for eternity.
