Crystal Eileen Krebs was born to Francis and Elizabeth Bennett on December 8, 1935, in Gordon, Nebraska. Her family moved to Walla Walla from South Dakota when she was five years old. She was very proud of her humble roots and how hard her family worked for what they had.
She met her husband, Art, in 1953 while working at BirdsEye Frozen Foods. They were married on August 21, 1955, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Crystal was fiercely proud of her children and their accomplishments. Even with six very active children, Crystal and Art always found a way to make it to all their games and activities. That trend continued with their grandchildren as well. She enjoyed playing golf, playing bridge (she loved her bridge group), and traveling. She was an accomplished seamstress, making outfits for her grandkids until the very end.
She worked many years as the Office Manager at Banker’s Life & Casualty and later held various office and administrative jobs while she was ‘semi-retired.
Throughout her life, she donated her time and talents to many organizations.
She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir for many years, was an usher with her husband, and served on many committees and fundraising activities. She was treasurer for the American Little League. She sang in the Chorale with the Walla Walla Symphony and was part of the group that performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City on May 28, 1990.
Crystal is survived by her children Alan (Suzette), Donna Nelson (Ed), Steve (Dana), Bob (Jennifer), Rick (Brenda), and Ann Knudtson (Dana); 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother, William Bennett (Sharon).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur (Art) Krebs, her parents, and five sisters: Mariann Pfaffle (Pete), Joyce Powers (William), Patti Stone (Chuck), Dolores Stordahl (Wes), and Coral Gies (William).
The family would like to thank her primary care physician, Dr. Joanne Perez, for always being so kind and helpful. We would also like to thank the Walla Walla Community Hospice team for being so comforting to the family members.
