Dixie

On February 4, 2023, our Lord and Savior welcomed home Cora May Davis (Jordan), 81; She passed peacefully at home surrounded by family. Cora was born on June 8, 1941, in Phoenix, AZ, and was the 6th out of 7 children born to Elijah and Nolia Jordan.

Cora grew up in several cities; Her family lived in Phoenix until 1945, when they moved to Anadarko, OK, where she started working at the age of 5 in the cotton fields, helping her mother and siblings to harvest cotton. In 1947 her family then moved back to Phoenix for three years before moving to Artesia, NM, and eventually settled in Phoenix, AZ, in 1953, where she met her high school sweetheart Terry Lynn Davis. They were married on June 28, 1959, and continued to live in Phoenix for the next twelve years, where they welcomed three children. In 1971 they moved to Dixie, WA, where they have called home ever since, and welcomed their 4th and final child into the world. Cora devoted her life to raising her children while also working at Gardner’s, Kmart, and the Bon Marche.

Cora was a dedicated philanthropist who lived her life with love and grace. Choosing to lead a life of service, she was a member of the Sunshine Rebekah Lodge #56 and held the office of many offices during her membership, including the office of Noble Grand; she also was an integral part of many committees with the Rebekah lodge. She generously donated to causes close to her heart and spread kindness by staying connected with others through cards, letters, and kind words.

Cora was the definition of perseverance, and even after having to drop out of high school, she was determined to finish, so she completed her High School Diploma by mail, taking her eight years, finishing in 1968, and then she went back to obtain her Clerk Certificate from Walla Walla Community College which she completed in 1986. She was an avid reader and could often be found with a book in hand and sharing her love of books with her family.
