Clara "Jinny" Daniels

Clara “Jinny” Daniels, 81, died July 31, 2015, in Walla Walla. Jinny was born Nov. 22, 1933, in Astoria, Ore., to Art and Mary (Lemmon) Aspholm. She graduated from Vancouver High School in 1951. On Dec. 28, 1951, she married Eugene (Gene) Daniels in Vancouver, Wash. Their daughter, Jan, was born in 1956.

Jinny worked various jobs over the years: at the Pacific Telegram Phone Co. in Portland, in the cafeteria for Vancouver School District and for the Upjohn Co. in Puyallup, Wash. Jinny and her family moved over 40 times for Gene’s job with Union Pacific Railroad before finally settling in Walla Walla in 1979.

In 1980, Jinny attended Walla Walla Community College and obtained her certified nursing assistant license, and worked with seniors until her husband retired in 1990. During their retirement, Jinny and Gene enjoyed traveling up and down the West Coast, and spent winters in Southern California until 2008. They were married for almost 60 years before Gene’s death in 2011.

Jinny enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening, playing cards and socializing with friends and family. She was a member of the Blue Mountain Community Church (formerly Walla Walla First Church of God). She is survived by her grandchildren, Melinda (Matt) Zirkle of Carson, Wash., and Christopher Erickson of Seattle. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015, at Mountain View Cemetery in Walla Walla. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jan Erickson Lifesaver Fund at Providence St. Mary Regional Cancer Center in Walla Walla through Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla WA 99362.
