Chris was born in Davenport, Iowa, on January 31, 1953, to John Austin and Patricia Lee Cummins Wood. Chris graduated from Saint Joseph's High School in Ogden, Utah, in 1971. She then lived abroad in Germany before returning to Utah and later settling in the Pacific Northwest. She spent the past 30 years enjoying her beloved home in nearby Waitsburg.
After moving to Waitsburg, Chris spent more than two decades in the Whitman College Admissions Department. Outside of her time at Whitman, she spent much of her professional life working in auto dealerships, holding positions ranging from title clerk to office manager. Most recently, she worked at Underriner Honda of Walla Walla.
One of her greatest passions was service with the Ladies Auxiliary to Aerie 26 of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, in Walla Walla. She served the Auxiliary in a number of roles over more than two decades, including two terms as Auxiliary President. She was also a long-time member of the Auxiliary's very-successful Ritual Team, competing in Shotgun, One-Woman and other B3 team events.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford Tarvin; daughters, Shannon Shelton and Nicholle Coles; sons, Nick, Josh and Tony Tarvin; daughters-in-law, Amy, Tawnjia and Kyle Tarvin; son-in-law, Skip Shelton; eight nieces and nephews, including her late brother Dave's children, Thelissa Plyer and Nathan Wood; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren, with two on the way; and one great-great-grandchild.
The family would like to thank all those who have contributed by caring for Chris and by supporting the family.
A gathering of her friends and family will be held in Walla Walla. Details will be available in the days to come.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Auxiliary of Eagles Aerie 26 through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W Alder St, Walla Walla, WA 99362. Friends and family are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.herringgroseclose.com.
