Cheryl Geissel (Hubbs) was called home to the Lord on August 7, 2023. She was 68 years old. Cheryl was born on May 13, 1955, on a sunny spring day in Walla Walla, Washington. She graduated from Walla Walla High School, Class of 1973. At the age of 19, Cheryl started working for Dr. David Dilts at the South Gate Dental Mall as a dental assistant. She went on to manage the front desk as the receptionist and became a beloved icon there for 48 years. It was there, in the early years of her career, she met the love of her life.
Glen happened to be filling in for a coworker on a substitute mail route when he walked into the Southgate Dental Mall and saw Cheryl, and that was it. She was working at the front desk; he mustered up the courage to ask her out, assuming she must be already taken. Much to his delight, she obliged. The rest is history. They were married on September 6, 1975, in Cheryl’s grandparents’ backyard. Glen and Cheryl’s love for one another was inextinguishable and unparalleled. They would spend the next 48 years loving each other and building a beautiful family together. She gave birth to her first child Tyson Geissel in 1978 and to her beautiful daughter Hallie Chilton (Geissel), in 1982. She also was the most amazing stepmother to Shelby Generoso (Geissel). When asked where they lived, Glen and Cheryl would reply, “We live on Hope,” both figuratively and physically. They lived on Hope Street for 41 years before moving into her dream home near the Fairgrounds.
Cheryl was called Mimi by eight grandbabies, of which she had a special place in her heart for each of them. Mimi loved to go shopping with her oldest, Katelynn Marie Geissel, talk about Minecraft with Betty Ann Chilton, be interrogated by Isla Layne Chilton, compliment Disney dresses of Alice Grace Geissel, was excited to have just met her youngest grandchild Jeremiah Rex Geissel, and enjoyed keeping in contact with her California based Generoso grandkids Kaylee, Jesiah, Jesse, and Ashlee.
Everyone who met Cheryl would gravitate towards her. She was strong beyond measure and held the absolute grace of an angel. She had such an amazing, positive impact on so many people. She always made time to listen and made sure you felt important and cared for, no matter how busy she might have been. While our hearts will never be consoled without her, we know that she is in the presence of our Lord and Creator, and this is only a temporary separation.
Until we meet again, we will honor her through the incredible impact she has left on us all. Cheryl was preceded in death by her mother, Leota Ann Lightfoot, and her father, Duane Kyle Hubbs.
Her celebration of life will be held this Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 10:00 AM, at Life Church, 611 S 9th Ave, Walla Walla.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.herringgroseclose.com.
