Charles Lyman Clark

Charles was born on a farm north of Potlatch, Idaho, to Archie and Rosie Clark. He was born with a twin sister, Hazel Wallace. He attended his first 4 years of school in two different country schools. His family then moved to Moscow, Idaho, where he attended 6th grade through the 12th grade. He loved sports and was selected as the most outstanding athlete during his senior year of high school. Charles went 3 semesters at the University of Idaho. He also participated in sports there. Then Charles enlisted into the army. He took 16 weeks of basic training and 8 weeks of leadership school. Then he went onto Officers Candidate School at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. After coming home Charles went back to school at the University of Idaho. Before graduating, he married Winnie in 1954. They were married for 62 years.

Charles graduated from the University of Idaho in 1957 in vocational agriculture. He taught agriculture for 4 years at Burley Idaho High School and then 3 years at Gooding Idaho High School. Then in 1964 Charles moved to Walla Walla, Washington. He taught Agriculture for 28 years at Walla Walla High School. He was a member lobbyist for teachers in Walla Walla for 7 years. He spent many hours project visiting students. He took students to National FFA Conventions and worked many hours at the Southeastern Washington Fair. Charles received the National American Farmer Degree in 1975. He was very active in educational committees. He retired in 1992 after 35 years of teaching.

He is survived by his wife, Winnie, daughter Cheryl (John) Herr, daughter Christy Clark (Bob Pruett), daughter Jean Colombo (Terry Darby), son David Clark and daughter, Susan (Deron) Beck. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 17, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Pioneer United Methodist Church in Walla Walla, Washington. Memorial contributions can be made to Pioneer United Methodist Church through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home.
