Carol Ann Mason

Carol Ann Mason, age 59, passed away June 18 ^th , 2015 at her home after a long battle with cancer and multiple sclerosis.

Carol Ann was born on September 9, 1955 to Dr. John B. and Lorraine H. Adams in Walla Walla, WA. She attended Assumption and DeSales Catholic schools while growing up in Walla Walla. Carol studied Nursing at Seattle University, graduating with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1977. She later also earned a degree in Respiratory Therapy in 1984, becoming both a Registered Nurse and a Registered Respiratory Therapist.

Carol Ann married Bradley Mason in 1992 and they have lived in Walla Walla since.

Carol Ann was employed by Providence St. Mary Medical Center as a RN for almost 38 years until her recent retirement due to health concerns. She performed many roles during her career with St. Mary, including working as an ICU nurse for over 20 years, serving as a medical transport flight nurse for LifeGuard Medical Transport during the 1980’s, and working in many roles assisting with the administrative tasks necessary in a healthcare organization. Carol Ann was instrumental in assisting with the development and implementation of the Washington and Oregon Trauma Care systems at St Mary. She finished her nursing career as a Surgical Quality Analyst, working in the Quality department with many treasured colleagues and friends. Carol Ann was widely known as a resource and mentor to all who worked with her, developing a wide circle of colleagues who trusted her advice and benefited from her talents as a nurse.

Carol Ann enjoyed photography and digital imaging. She also learned to develop and maintain websites in the early days of the internet and served as St. Mary Medical Center’s first webmaster for several years. She also loved to travel in her RV with her husband and her golden retrievers, especially enjoying meeting friends at the Oregon coast. Daily walks with her husband and dogs were a high point of her day. Friends and family always enjoyed Carol Ann’s warm and caring personality, her deep loyalty and her desire to make those around her safe and happy.

Carol Ann is survived by her husband at home, her mother, Lorraine H. Adams of Walla Walla, her sister, Kathy McClafferty(Mick) of Butte, MT, her brother, Joe Adams of Wenatchee, WA, her sister, Dawn Adams of Walla Walla, WA, her niece, Heather McClafferty of Butte, MT, numerous aunts , uncles, cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. John B. Adams, MD who passed away in 2005.

Funeral services will be held at Assumption Church Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 2:00 PM. A private interment will follow. Arrangements are being made by Herring Groseclose Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Walla Walla Community Hospice, the Walla Walla Christian Aid Center or to the charity of choice through the funeral home.
