Carlyle Barton Brittain Jr.

June 25, 1926 — October 26, 1926

Carlyle Barton (Bart) Brittain
Jr., was born on June 25, 1926,
in Casper, Wyo., to Carlyle Barton
Brittain Sr., and Blanch Harriet Brooks.

For a short time they lived in
LaGrande, before moving to Walla Walla. Bart attended
Green Park Elementary School and Walla
Walla High School. At age 17 he enlisted in the U.S.
Navy serving in the South Pacific during WWII and
stationed in Hawaii after the war in the fire department.
He was called back to duty for the Korean Conflict
stationed in Santa Barbara, Calif.

On April 1, 1951, Bart married Emma Koehler at
Emmanuel Lutheran Church, they were married for
63 years. Bart returned to Walla Walla and worked for
his father at Britt’s Shoe Repair on First Street, and
later opening his own shoe repair shop at Eastgate
Drug Store for 30 years. Upon leaving the shoe repair
business he went to work for Walla Walla County as
supervisor for maintenance at the Walla Walla court
House, retiring at the age of 75.

He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Brittain.
Survived by his wife Emma, at the family home where
they have lived for 60 years. Son, Kenneth (Connie)
Brittain; and Brian (Lisa) Brittain; grandchildren,
Anna, Emalee, John and Bella Brittain.

Private graveside service to be held at Blue Mountain
Memorial Gardens on Myra Road at 11 a.m. on
Oct. 31, 2014, and a memorial service at the Emmanuel
Lutheran Church, 628 Lincoln St. at 12 p.m. and
reception in church basement after the service. Donation
in memory of Bart can be made to the Larry
Jay Brittain Scholarship Fund thru the Blue Mountain
Community Foundation or Emmanuel Lutheran
Church.
