Calman Eben Allen

January 20, 1945 — August 11, 2014

Calman Eben “Jake” Allen, 69, Prescott, WA, formerly of Tuttle, ND, lost his courageous 2½-year battle with lung cancer on August 11, 2014, his wife and daughter by his side.

Arrangements are being handled by Herring-Groseclose Funeral Home, Walla Walla, WA. Burial will be at the McKinney Cemetery near Tolley, ND. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tuttle Wildlife Club through the funeral home. Family & friends are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.herringgroseclose.com.

Jake was born Jan. 20, 1945 at home near Mohall, ND. He grew up on the family farm and spent many hours roller skating at the Mouse River Park. It was there he met the love of his life, Laura “Lolly” Irgens. They married in 1965 and had two girls, Vicki and DeAnn.

He graduated from Minot State College in 1971 with a teaching degree. He was a high school teacher in Tuttle, ND from 1972-1982. He started welding for Arena Welding and Manufacturing in 1984 where he loved designing and building farm implements. He eventually bought out and became co-owner of the business. He worked there with his wife, Laura, until his illness.

Jake was a long-time member of the Tuttle Wildlife Club, and a new Member of the Eagles Club in Dayton, WA. As an avid hunter and fisherman, he helped raise pheasants for the Wildlife Club and was insistent that he help his grandson catch his first fish! He enjoyed deep sea fishing off the coast of North Carolina with his son-in-law, Kendal. He spent a week tent camping near Pembina, ND and bagged a 1,000 lb. moose. He loved hunting white tail deer, antelope, pheasants, and other game with family and friends. Jake was also a spectacular gardener, growing and canning many vegetables. As grandpa’s little girl, Skylar, can attest, the peas this summer were superb!

Recently, he spent time exploring his new surroundings in the Blue Mountains with daughter, DeAnn, and son-in-law, Shawn. He even hopelessly tried to teach his daughters the skills of canoeing on Jubilee Lake.

Jake loved his girls more than he could ever express. Whether it be flying, with one daughter at the controls and the other by his side, or driving with the two, he always had good advice and directions to give! We love you too, Dad. Jake was proud of his family and his three grandchildren who completed his life.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 49 years, Laura, Prescott, WA; his children Vicki (Kendal) Coddington, Newark, TX, DeAnn (Shawn) McCann, Prescott, WA; two grandsons, Colton and Brendon Coddington, and one granddaughter, Skylar McCann; his brothers, Delmer (Judy) Allen, Yucca Valley, CA; Randy Allen, Fargo, ND; his sister-in-law, LaVerne (Darrell) Triplett, Bismarck, ND; his brother-in-law, Martin (Evelyn) Irgens, Kenmare, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mabel (Brekhus) Allen; his brother, Kenny Allen and sisters, Mavis Kjos and Carol Evanger.
