Betty Jo Zier

Betty Jo Zier, 86, passed away December 27, 2012, at Park Manor Rehabilitation Center in Walla Walla, Washington.

Betty was born in Walla Walla, Washington on April 20, 1926 to James and Elberta (Cummings) Chapman. Betty attended Walla Walla Public Schools and graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1945.

On July 6, 1947, she, and the love of her life, Walter H. Zier were married in Walla Walla, Washington. Together they had two children: Jim Zier of Boise, Idaho and Devin Woods of Rexburg, Idaho.

Betty was first and foremost a mother to her two children as well as an efficient and accomplished homemaker. After her children were in school, Betty became an accomplished bookkeeper/receptionist for Crown Zellerback Paper Company for many years and retired with them in Walla Walla in 1983. Betty was a past member of the First Church of Christ Scientist and a current member of the Blue Mountain Community Church.

In addition to her two children she is also survived by her husband Walter, and 8 grandchildren: Chad Zier of Boise, Idaho; J. Craig Zier (Taryn) of Lake Forest Park, Washington; Jena (Jeremy) Burkman of Boise, Idaho; Jeffrey Zier of Boise, Idaho; Krista (Chris) Johnson of Woodland, Oregon; Kari (Derrik) Oborn of Toole, Utah; Joseph (Courtney) Woods, Eldorado Hills, California; and Britta (Stuart) Black of West Jordan, Utah; 3 great grandsons, 10 great granddaughters; 7 step grandchildren & 29 step great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Wilma Jean Lowery; daughter-in-law, Jill LaVerne Zier; son-in-law, Jerry Woods.

The Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday April 20, 2013 at the Blue Mountain Community Church, 928 Sturm Ave., Walla Walla, Washington. Reverend Jim Snyder will officiate. Following the service, there will be a reception at the Blue Mountain Community Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Walla Walla Community Hospice,
Christian Aid Center or Blue Mountain Community Church through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA.
