Betty Jo was a resident of Walla Walla
for 17 years, one of four children born to
Dwight and Julia Frankeberger in Hollywood,
Calif. During her youth she spent time with
her dear grandma Bays, who held a very special place
in BJ’s heart. She spoke of her her entire life with
respect, love and devotion. While raising children in
Bremerton, Wash., she nurtured many lasting friendships.
BJ always tried to put a smile in people’s hearts
with her giving ways, and grew to give of herself to
many organizations in need.
She volunteered at the Union Gospel Mission in Yakima.
She became a camp host for the Forest Service
at Lake Magone, near John Day, Ore. After the death
of her husband, BJ continued to host for 10 more
years. This is where BJ found her niche, returning
each year with her family of camp guests. You could
see the love she has always shown for others after that
length of service. She retired in Walla Walla. Then
the YMCA met her. A very dear friend of hers, Tom
Kelleher, was instrumental in seeing that BJ was
given the liberty to shine, and she did. As the ambassador
of the YMCA, she faithfully committed herself
to making members know they were welcome. BJ has
always tried to give as much as she has received.
May you rest in peace.
