Benjamin Adam Stull

October 8, 1981 — December 1, 2016

Daejeon, South Korea

Benjamin Adam Stull, 35, of Daejeon, South Korea, died as a result of an accident at his family’s home. He was born October 8, 1981, in Seattle, Washington. He leaves behind his wife, Miyoung Park, sons Noeul Adam, 4, Eydin Stephen, 2, sister Megan Alexander of Tucson, Arizona, nieces Ann and Liliana, brother Drew Stull of Stony Brook, New York, father Stephen Stull of Richland, Washington, and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ann Jauhiainen.

While most think changing the world for the better a good idea, Ben devoted much of his life making that idea happen. Ben’s passion was teaching and helping others in an extraordinary variety of situations. At the time of his death, he was a professor of English at Woosong University and Woosong Language Institute in Daejeon, where he taught English as a Foreign Language. Faculty members and friends there remember Ben for his humor, compassion and love for life. A friend from Daejeon wrote, “He always had time for his friends. He was always deliberate in the way he listened to you. So when I had problems dealing with work or just dealing with being a dad, I’d go to Ben. Because he listened. That’s a rare gift.”

Ben also taught English as a second language to foreign students at Central Washington University in Ellenburg, WA, and at GnB English Academy in South Korea where he taught preschool, elementary and middle school students. As an Americorps member in Washington, DC, Ben tutored adolescent students and helped adults prepare for their General Education Degree. As a member of the Peace Corps, Ben spent time in Mali in West Africa teaching drought-related agriculture and gardening techniques to adults.
As a husband, father, brother and uncle, his greater passion was family. He was brave enough to giggle and be silly with his young sons and nieces no matter where he was. His humor was catching. He had dreams of writing children’s books and had begun his first about a spider who wanted to make a rocket. The location listed of the publisher was one of the many ways Ben could make you smile. On the cover, the location is simply “Earth”.

Ben married the love of his life, Miyoung Park, in South Korea on April 23, 2011 in a traditional Korean ceremony. No one will miss him more.
