Benjamin Payne Ellis, 39, of Spokane, Washington, passed away unexpectedly on May 9, 2026, in Walla Walla, Washington.

Ben was known for his creativity, talent, and sense of humor. He was an amazing tattoo artist and a gifted illustrator who created stunning artwork and shared it freely with those around him—if you asked, he would gladly bring your ideas to life.

He had a passion for working with his hands. He enjoyed working on cars and stereos, painting, building houses, drawing, and spending time fishing. Whatever he set his mind to, he approached with skill and enthusiasm.

Above all, Ben loved his family deeply and brought laughter to those who knew him. His ability to make people smile and feel welcomed will be remembered by all.

He is survived by his daughter, Madison Fitzpatrick; his mother, Jody Jannot, and stepfather, Morgan Jannot; his grandmother, Leslie Ellis; his four sisters, Erica Ellis, Mya Mesecher, Ashley Ellis, and Jessica Jannot; his brother, Jonathyn Jannot; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin “Andy” Andrew Ellis Jr.; his grandfather, Melvin Ellis Sr.; his grandmother, Barbara Prescott; his grandfather, Eugene Smith; and his aunt, Amy Ellis.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Post Falls, Idaho. The date and time will be announced once details are finalized. A private ceremony will follow to lay him to rest with his paternal grandfather.

Ben’s memory will live on through the laughter he shared, the art he created, and the love he gave so freely to those around him.
