Beatrice Alice Bowman York

Beatrice (Bea) passed away on November 9, 2017 at Providence Hospital. She was born on August 30, 1923 to Mabel Boyd Bowman and Harry E. Bowman in Portland, Oregon.

She worked at Fort Lewis during high school, graduating from Olympia High School in 1944. After graduation she worked in Portland, Oregon at the INS Bureau. Bea married Boyd C. York on May 31, 1945 and together they raised five children, spending most of their lives in Walla Walla.

She Was a Member of the IOOF Beehive Lodge and volunteered at the Odd Fellows home for many years where she stitched quilt tops for sale in their gift shop. She was an accomplished seamstress and knitter. She also enjoyed swimming, working in her flower beds, crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She and her husband also enjoyed many years in their cabin at Spout Springs and after selling that property they traveled in their RV all over the Pacific NW.

She is Survived by her sister, Diane Ford of Seattle, her daughter Carol (Jerry) Ohail of Allyn, WA, her son Richard of Coos Bay, OR, her daughter Teri (Lonny) Lightfoot of Walla Walla, WA, her son Jack of Walla Walla, WA and her son, Greg of the Philippines; She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and a younger brother (Dick) and a younger sister (Harriett).

The recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 6:00 PM at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home with Sister Helen Mason, officiating.

The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church Friday, November 17, 2017 at 10:00 AM with Father David Gaines, celebrant. A private family graveside service followed at the Mountain View Cemetery.
