Barbara Jane Hanson, 64, passed away on September 28, 2012 at her home in Walla Walla, Washington.
Jane was born November 13, 1947 in La Grande, Oregon to Harold & Ada True Spencer. Jane lived in the Walla Walla Valley for most of her life having moved from La Grande, Oregon in her 3rd grade year. In high school, she was referred to as Janie, then later in life to her friends as Jane. If she was your friend, she was your friend for life.
Jane dedicated her time to Narcissa Rebekah Lodge and Enterprise Lodge of Odd Fellows. She was the voice of team penning events at the fairgrounds even though she did not ride horses. Jane was an avid member of Team Penners. She volunteered her vacation time to run the Apple Bin in the Kids Farm during the fair time. In her spare time, Jane cared for her flowers and yard but kept Friday evenings saved for close friends, good food & good times.
However, in her most recent past, most of her attention and love was spent at her grandchildren’s sporting events. If it was soccer, basketball, baseball or football, you knew she was there by her cheering (and friendly advice). Her children and grandchildren recall they could always hear her.
Jane was preceded in death by her mother, Ada “Billie” Spencer Lane; her father, Harold Spencer and a sister, Linda Issel. Jane is survived by her husband, Ted Hanson at the home; daughter & son-in-law, Jennifer & John Knowles of Walla Walla, WA; son, Scott Hanson of Pullman, WA; brother & sister-in-law, John & Rita McNeil of Dixie, WA; sister & brother-in-law, Kris & Jim Brown of Walla Walla; two grandchildren, Mason & Brady Knowles of Walla Walla, WA and several nieces & nephews.
There will be a Celebration of Jane’s life on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the College Place Presbyterian Church with Doug Hayes officiating. There will be a reception following the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Walla Walla Community Hospice or St. Mary Regional Cancer Center through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA.
