Barbara Hamada, 77, passed away on May 29, 2015. She was born in Stockton, CA on June 19, 1937 to Tsunetaro Oye and Jun Murakami Oye.
As a young child, her family was sent to a Japanese internment camp in Rohwer, AR during World War II. After the war, the family moved to the Walla Walla area. On June 18, 1960, she married Joe Hamada and together raised three children.
She worked as a bookkeeper for Good Year Tire Company and then later went into the greenhouse business with Joe and his brothers (Hamada Brothers). Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She absolutely loved her grandchildren. She loved attending all of their activities and was their biggest supporter. She enjoyed gardening, coffee time at McDonalds with friends, “occasional” trips to Wildhorse, and preparing Sunday dinners for her family.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Joe; and children, Shannon (Steve), Brian, and Craig (Cathy); and grandchildren, Megan, Joseph, Nicole, Jordan, and Emily; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by siblings Jimmy, George, Richard, June, Nancy, Masako, and Mae.
The memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 10:00 AM at College Place Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to American Diabetes Association or to a charity of your choice through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA.
