On April 16, 2015, our beloved Barbara Jean Ferraro
lost a very short battle to cancer. Barbara was born at
St. Mary’s Hospital on Oct. 21, 1947, in Walla Walla
to parents Dominic and Jacqueline (Lindsey) Ferraro.
She went all through the Catholic school system,
starting at St. Patrick’s and graduating from DeSales
in 1965. Barb then went on to Kinman Business College
in Spokane, where she learned the fundamentals
of secretarial work. Upon furthering her education,
she was hired by St. Mary’s Hospital to work in the
business office. After many years at the hospital,
Barb left and started working for Walla Walla County,
from there she retired in September of 2014.
Barbara was a woman who had a deep love for literature,
theater, cinema, but most of all her family. She
enjoyed losing herself in one of her many novels and
occasionally catching a double feature at the movies
on a Sunday afternoon. Barbara’s family came
first before anything. There wasn’t a sporting event,
birthday party or holiday she missed.
Not having children of her own, Barb made herself
present and available in all of her nieces’ and nephews’
lives. Many will remember her by her strong personality
and witty sense of humor. From game nights
with the ladies, to volunteer work at a local church,
her presence will be deeply missed.
Barb is survived by her sisters, Dolores (George) Michel
of Yakima, Mary (Gayle) Fowler of College Place,
Helen Ferraro of College Place; her brothers, Jim
(Pam) Ferraro of College Place and John (Dolores)
Ferraro of Portland; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by grandparents, L.W. and
Myrtle Lindsey and Joe Sr. and Sophie Ferraro; her
mother, Jacqueline; and infant brother, Dominic Jr.
A Rosary will be held at Herring Funeral Home on
May 1, 2015, at 6 p.m., a graveside service at 10 a.m.
on May 2, 2015, at Mountain View Cemetery. The
family is asking in lieu of flowers to please make a
donation to the American Cancer Society.
