August (Gus) H. Meier Jr. passed away
Sept. 8, 2013, from complications after
surgery. Gus was born Oct. 28, 1956, in Dell Rapids,
S.D., to August and June Meier. The family later
moved to Dayton, where he grew up. Gus has two
children: son, Shawn (Benevides) Meier; daughter,
Afton Journey.
He met his wife, Penny Antes, in 1993; they were
married on Aug. 28, 1995. She was the love of his life
and he was the love of her life. They were each other’s
best friend. Gus enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting
and scrounging, but most of all he loved to go for long
drives in the country with his wife and their two dogs,
his “Little Buddies,” Sam and Milo.
Gus was truly loved by everyone who knew him.
He was always kind and caring and if he could help
someone in need he did, unless it was moving, ha ha!
Gus was truly the best husband, father, brother,
uncle, grandpa and friend and we are all going to
miss him.
Gus is survived by his wife, Penny; his children;
six sisters, Lillis Jenkins of Milton-Freeewater, Berniece
(Fred) Banks of Prescott, Lorry (Bill) Hope
of Clarkston, Susan (Dave) Fleshman of Dayton,
Michelle Meier of Dayton, Terri (Jason) Vernam of
Kennewick; two brothers, Ray Meier of Waitsburg,
Joe (Kaye) Meier of Paterson; sister-in-law, Tina Meier of Pomeroy; brother-in-law, Ruben
Castillo of Richland; six grandchildren; 35 nieces and
nephews; 30 great-nieces and nephews; and his dogs,
Sam and Milo. He is preceded in death by his parents;
his brother, Billy Meier; and close friend, Les Doering.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the
August Meier Memorial Fund at Banner Bank to help
his family with medical expenses.
There will be a potluck celebration of life for Gus at
a later date.
