College Place

Troy Queen passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, at the age of 91, with his wife and family by his side. He was born July 9, 1933, in Cleburne, Texas, to the late Marvin and Morene Sullivan Queen.

He graduated in 1952 from Roosevelt High School in Fresno, California. He attended Fresno City College until March 1953, when he enlisted in the U. S. Army. He received Basic and Leadership Training at Fort Ord, California. After serving 18 months in Korea, he returned to Fort Ord, was promoted to Sergent, and served as the Weapons Committee Instructor for 18 months.

Troy was a 50-year member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was a lifetime member of the Korean War Veterans Association Inc., the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion. He was extremely proud of his service to our country.

He met his “Sweet Sue” (Susan Timmons) in 1957 on a blind date. They were married on July 12, 1957, in Fresno. Spending 67 wonderful years together, they were blessed with three children.

Troy made many friends through his employment at The Turf, the US Postal Service, retiring in 1992, Bur Bee, and Shopko.

Troy coached his sons and grandchildren in Little League, Senior League Softball, Pony and Colt Leagues. He also coached the Post Office “Zippers” softball team to a championship in 1981. He was instrumental in starting the DeSales High School Softball program in 1996. He volunteered to umpire at all levels of baseball and softball, as well as the local, district, and state levels. He spent many years volunteering on the ground crews at both Little League complexes. He was affectionately called “grandpa” by many of the boys and girls he coached.

His favorite activity was watching his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the local youth participate in sports.

In 1996, he achieved a lifelong dream of motoring with Susan, the Headleys, and Richards across the country to watch the Little League World Series 50th Anniversary in Williamsport, PA.

Troy was preceded in death by his brother, Scott, sisters, Patsy and Nancy, and grandson, Orrin W. Hamby. He is survived by his devoted wife, daughter, Kathy Shoemaker (Mark), and sons, Rick (Jolene) and Ron (Linda). His legacy will live on in five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson.
