Anona Daun Willoughby-Brown

April 20, 1932 — July 9, 2016

Walla Walla

Anona “Daunie” Willoughby-Brown
passed away peacefully on July 9, 2016.
She was born on April 20, 1932, to Roy
and Ferdia Turner in Walla Walla and was one of 12
children. Anona was a wonderful wife and mother,
and never knew a stranger. Her bubbly personality
was contagious to everyone who met her. She was a
very active member in the Refuge Church. Her faith
in the Lord carried her through many trials in her
life.
In 1947, Anona married Donald E. Willoughby. They
enjoyed their 49 years together and had five children.
He passed away in 1996. In 2006, happiness came
again when she married Wallis Brown and inherited
13 children. They had 10 beautiful years together.
Anona relished family gatherings where we all
shared stories and played cards. She loved gardening,
word-search puzzles and reading. She enjoyed camping
trips with family, especially at Priest Lake and on
the Umatilla River. Anona worked at Whitman College
for more than 30 years in the dining room and
kitchen. She retired from Whitman in 1986.
Anona is survived by her husband, Wally; her five
children: David Willoughby of northern California,
Robert Willoughby (Jan) of Touchet, Tim Willoughby
(Connie) of Spokane, Judy Kittle (Jack) of Walla
Walla, Holly Sundberg (Dennis) of Walla Walla; 12
grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; one greatgreat-
grandchild; 13 step-children; and numerous
nieces and nephews. She is also survived by three siblings,
Dick Turner, Frank Turner and Noel Brewer.
Anona’s memorial service will be at 11 a.m., July
16, at the Refuge Church, 305 Detour Road. Contributions
can be made to the Christian Aid Center
through Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W.
Alder St., Walla Walla.
